Introduction :
Nadi shodhan Pranayama is one of the ancient technique used for cleaning the energy channel in the body. The word nadi shodhancome from the combination of Nadi and Shodhan, nadi refers to the energy chaneel and Shodhan refers for cleaning.
It is also known as basic or root building technique for the stating the different pranayama and meditation technique.
This pranayama technique involves alternate breathing from left and right nostril. It is most power full technique used for maintain the balance between the body and the mind.

Stages of Nadi Shodhan pranayama :
1). Basic stage of Nadi shodhan pranayama :
This is the basic stage of nadi shodhan Pranayama. in this stage your inhalation and Exhalation timing is same that means how much time you take to inahale and how much time you take to exhale is same. The ratio of inhale and exhale is according to your capacity eg.1:1, 2:2, 3:3, 4:4, 5:5, and so on. That means if you inhale in 4sec then exhale in 4sec.
Purpose of this stage is maintain the rhythm of breathing and preaparing body for deeper practice.
2). Intermediate stage of Nadi shodhan pranayama :
This is the intermediate stage of nadi shodhan Pranayama. In this stage three factor are important A)Inhaleing the breath, B)Holding the breath and C)Exhaling the breath.
The ratio of inhale, hold and exhale is 1:1:2. And you can increase it according to your capacity like 2:2:4, 3:3:6, 4:4:8, and so on.
The purpose of this stage is enhance the lungs capacity and calm the nervous system.
3). Advance stage of Nadi shodhan pranayama :
This is the intermediate advance of nadi shodhan Pranayama. This stage also contain the three step that is inhale, hold and exhale. But there are some changes in the ratio. In this stage ratio become 1:4:2. That means inhale in 1sec, hold the breath for 4sec and exhale in 2sec.
The purpose of this stage is to prepare you for further technique practice and increasing the pranic flow.
How to Practice Nadi Shodhan Pranayama :
- Sit in Padmasana(lotus pose), of you are not comfortable in the padmasana the sit in sukhasana.

Make sure that your spine should be straight and close your eyes gently.- Making the Prana Mudra(vishnu mudra) by connecting ring and little finger to the thumb and your first and middle finger folded towards the thumb as shown in the below.
- Keep your left hand on your left knee and use your right hand for close your right nostril with thumb your ring and little finger for closing the left nostril as shown in the below.
- Inhale the breath and hold according to your capacity and stage as given in above. and make sure that there is no need to make pressure on your body.
- That holded breath should be exhale through the right nostril. After the exhalation take the breath through the right nostril and hold and exhale through the left nostril.
- Here the completion of one cycle and repeate this until the completion of 10-15 cycle.
Tips for the beginner:
- Start with 3-5 round daily and grdually increase it.
- keep your breath in rhythim and slow.
- Practice on the empty stomach and in the morning.
Who should not do Practice of Nadi Shodhan Pranayama :
- People with sever heart condition.
- Person who have respiratory disorders
- Who hav recent heart attack
- Pregnant women
